Eggplant!

I have never been a fan of the eggplant. I want to be--well and truly. It's one of the most beautiful vegetables, but I have never successfully tasted anything made of eggplant with enjoyment.

However, as such attractive veggies, they do make an excellent shape for crocheting and having as a toy.

Good Thing Thirteen: Dinosaurs

Seriously. Is there anything cooler than dinosaurs? It's the first things that kids discover that are beyond belief. . . and yet are still real. Dragons used to live on this very earth and they were HUGE! And so they teach kids science and awe and linguistics (those are some long, complicated names those beasts have. Spell or pronounce this at 3 years of age: Dasygnathoides).

And if we're lucky, that awe and inquisitiveness sticks with us for the rest of our lives. . .

I'm lucky this year, because my niece and nephew have just hit their dinosaur phase. And so I got to spend time making dinosaurs just for them for Christmas. (*Shhhh, though. They don't open those gifts until tomorrow.)

Tiny Clothes

I was sick all Memorial Day weekend. Had one extra day today. I slept a lot, read a lot, and made a few things--including tiny clothes for new tiny friends to be added to the fivetrees shop soon.



Pink and orange. . . more things ought to be pink and orange. It's such a lovely combination.

New Lady Critters

I took some time away from critter makin's to work on a series of mitts. . . but I have bounced back again to critters. I don't think I get bored with any one project. . . I just get more excited about another. It's always a bright side.

It's been so hot hot hot here and the man and I are being toughies and not buying any A/C devices. . . so, dressing these little lovelies in sweaters has felt unusually cruel. But I shan't let my own discomfort get in the way of their fashion.

Mabel has a new buddy

Mabel has a new little friend named Dolores. She's tall for her class, but Mabel doesn't mind. As long as she's willing to hold hands, Mabel believes that Dolores can be as tall she wants to be.

new project

Rattles! I've been wanting to try my hand at making rattles for a while now. And I'm pretty excited about the results. Only one misstep and one resulting subpar rattle. But the second try was perfect and now I'm in the rattle crafting business.

Very similar to my finger puppets, but larger and for the shaking. So far, I have a bunny version, a kitty version and an elephant version. Check the bunny to the right.

And I think it's good design. Safety eyes and no hard parts--even the handle is just hardpacked with fiberfill. . .

CarCam

Working on a project with my buddy Kari. . . it's really her vision and her project, but I can at least say that I'm honored to help out when and how I can. She's turning her car into a video camera, wrapping the whole thing in knit black fabric that her friends and family are knitting. Then she's also getting the Columbia community to knit three full-sized students, wrapped on mannequins.

All set up for Manifest in three weeks.

Kari finished the hands of her gentleman student, which inspired me to crochet the Green Lantern insignia that goes on the black hoodie he will be wearing. Super fun.

pin cushions

Just recently made a list of things I want to make.  It's a long list and some of the things on it?  I don't even have the requisite skills to complete them yet.

But I can do pincushions.  None are finished yet. . . when they are, pictures to come.  But here are some of the components of future pin cushions:
